Voter Training Technology
15 July 2004
To increase accuracy and efficiency in the voting process, NogginLabs, Inc. has teamed with Fidlar Election Company to build a groundbreaking voting training curriculum. It will be offered to a nationwide audience before voting training begins for the 2004 election. The new training curriculum includes highly interactive e-learning courseware that will also be translated to online, CD-ROM, VHS, and instructor-led formats.
The demand for better training methods increased significantly after the 2000 presidential election. Research indicated that one of the major issues of the past election was the lack of training for poll workers. Currently, training courses occur in overcrowded lounges, movie theaters, and classrooms, which limit student/facilitator interaction and overall retention of course material.
With the addition of electronic voting tabulators and other new voting technology, the demand for more efficient training has increased greatly. NogginLabs, Inc. and Fidlar Election Company are developing an online training course that is aimed at revolutionizing all aspects of poll worker training. The new course will simulate the environment of the polling place, offer poll workers “on-the-job” training of the procedures at the polls, and allow the learners to proceed at their own paces. For example, the learner will be placed in voting scenarios and must implement the correct methods to operate the voting equipment, assist the voters, and tally the votes. Learners will not be allowed to proceed until demonstrating retention of course material.
By offering more efficient and more in-depth training methods, NogginLabs, Inc. and Fidlar Election Company hope to dramatically increase voting accuracy at the polls in 2004.
