19 November 2009
CHICAGO, IL—November 19, 2009—Chicago based e-learning innovator NogginLabs won four Excellence in Learning Awards in the 2009 Brandon Hall Awards. NogginLabs’ entries were as follows:
EverFi Financial Literacy PlatformTM: GOLD, Best Use of Game
Abbott Laboratories Global Payor System: SILVER, Best Learning Game; BRONZE, Best Custom Content
AOL CAP: Goals and Values: BRONZE, Best Learning Game
A full list of winners is available at http://www.brandon-hall.com.
Abbott’s Global Payor System is a level four simulation to educate field sales representatives on the topic of managed care. In order to achieve the goals of engaging learners and providing a realistic simulation that they can apply to their work in the field, the course was designed as a highly interactive game that allows learners to explore a cityscape environment similar to that of SimCity. The learner can choose, at his or her own discretion, which managed care related buildings to visit; just as they would in the field.
The AOL CAP course provides a thorough introduction to AOL’s corporate goals and values. The course was deployed to all AOL employees, and will continue to be a part of new employee orientation. It was crucial to AOL that the course be as interactive and engaging to learners as possible, and with that in mind, the “first-person perspective” game interaction was employed. Learners view the game through the eyes of the protagonist, and explore the interactive hallways as they complete a goal-based scenario.
The EverFi Financial Literacy PlatformTM answers a growing need for financial literacy in adolescents and young adults. EverFi called on NogginLabs to build a comprehensive series of e-learning courses that would provide learners with a refresher in the core principles of financial literacy. The EverFi Life game is the culminating event of this series and provides learners with the knowledge necessary to successfully play the game. The course is a Level 4 simulation, which uses a complex set of rules to trigger interruptions and consequences. This type of simulation takes into account learners’ progress throughout the game, as well as learners’ actions in each particular scenario.
