NogginLabs was founded on the notion that custom e-learning design and development is the ultimate horizontal industry. Time and again, each new project, client, and industry proves it. The biggest advantage of the e-learning horizontal is cross-pollinating ideas from two wildly different domains. A restaurant service simulation for iPad may influence a high-fashion online retail challenge. E-learning for financial advisors in a bank could inspire a mobile outreach program for cancer survivors. This variety also keeps the creative folks at NogginLabs fresh. Fresh learning ideas and designs come from a set of constantly changing constraints.


Mobile Learning

In the last 20 years we've been in business, mobile learning is the first technology that really changes the way we think about and develop custom e-learning. We've seen many trends come and go (Second Life®, anyone?) but mobile learning is clearly here to stay. At its highest level, mobile learning is just a technology shift—building courseware that doesn't rely on Flash. At a more detailed level, all four pillars of learning development need to shift when you're thinking about mobile learning. It requires rethinking your user interface, where your learners will access this learning, and dynamic screen resolution options. Oh, and figuring out what exactly phablets are. Here at NogginLabs, we're building custom mobile learning applications every day of the week.

Ever asked yourself, "Gee, what would it look like if we were our own client?" We asked, and then applied all seven laws of the NogginLabs Blueprint to come up with what we think is a pretty cool game for our own kids. In fact, the user testing we've done has seriously saved us on some long road trips! Scout It Out! was recently awarded the National Parenting Center's seal of approval.

Our friends at Foov Fitness asked us to invent a new way of using an iPad during a workout. Instead of simply using it to watch demonstrations, the iPad becomes a key piece of equipment in the gym. Working with Foov’s experts in fitness and special needs care (people with cognitive disabilities such as Down syndrome, Autism, and Fragile X,) we created “Foov at the Ballpark,” a fitness app that allows participants to get the full Wrigley Field experience online.

Allergan needed to train all personnel on healthcare law and company compliance policies, but with one caveat: They didn't want it to be boring. Naturally, we agreed and built nine courses customized for multiple audiences, from the medical affairs group to sales and marketing. Housed in an interactive, virtual experience that is launched from their LMS on iPads, we created a mobile-compatible course that also works in Internet Explorer so folks can take it on their PCs—try that with HTML 5!

NogginLabs knows e-learning the way Cicerone Certification Program knows beer. Red Robin Gourmet Burgers wanted a native iOS app for soft skills manager training. NogginLabs wanted free gourmet burgers. We built a fully illustrated environment where managers get to interact with virtual customers and colleagues. We added a leaderboard to keep people engaged and to foster competition among managers.
